Fully God, Fully Human

Doug Linhardt, December 12, 2014

The beginning of the Christmas story, as told by Matthew:

Sharing God’s Love

For the second year in a row, our guys participated in “Operation Christmas Child” through Samaritan’s Purse. This organization works with local churches and ministry partners to help more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries experience God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts.
Accompanied by our own Darlene along with Tim and David’s moms, the Washington House guys packed shoe boxes with gifts for needy children. The guys learned a great hands-on lesson of giving: “Go and do likewise” as Jesus teaches in Luke 10:37.

Counting Our Blessings!

At this time of Thanksgiving, we gather together to celebrate the blessings God has bestowed on our families and the world. As we reflect, let us put aside a moment to thank God for making us each unique, each irreplaceable, each a singular blessing made by careful design, each imbued with our own strengths, but all for the same purpose: to walk His path of love. The men at Washington House and those at Stars Family Services would like to share this verse with you as we give thanks to our Father for all his good gifts:

A New Look to Our Old Favorites

Our old recipes took on a new look as we've added these cool photos. This will help non-readers and readers alike to move closer to independence as they cook these yum-my meals!

Stars Family Services Partner Program

We are excited about the Stars Family Services Partner Program!

We believe God gives each of us tasks to do and this is a good gift from Him. It has been our dream to have people with intellectual and developmental disabilities from our STARS ministry at College Church join us as Partners in our shops.

Summer Delights at Cantigny Park

The guys are soaking in summer evenings at Cantigny Park this summer! Here they are taking in "The Everly Brothers" concert. Four chums delighting in friendship, community, and great entertainment.

No couch Pota-toes here!

So as not to produce any “Couch Pota-toes” each resident is active at an out-side activity each weekday from 10am until 2pm. Each of our guys work at var-ious jobs around the community. Like-wise, each of the guys ’play’ at various activities around the community. Here, we see Gary at “Connection of Friends” which meets at Hope Presbyterian Church right here in Wheaton.

Big weekend for STARS and for the Washington House guys!

What a beautiful June Saturday we had for this years Run for the STARS! The Washington House was well represented with our very own Gary singing the Star Spangled Banner before the race, Tim and David running the 5k and Ian and Gary running in the Dash for the STARS. A very special treat for the guys was meeting Emily Colson (in picture) who shared her amazing story with the church this weekend. The 5k route led runners right past the Washington House, where they were greeted with a big Washington House sign and some words of en-couragement from the Stoughs and Davises.

Stars Family Services hosts historic ground breaking ceremony!

June 9th was a historic day for Stars Family Services. Over 125 people joined together at 377 Cross Street to celebrate breaking ground on two Wheaton community homes. Dr. Moody led the group in a moving prayer of dedication. These homes, which are targeted to be completed in early 2014, will create another opportunity for more adults participating in the Stars Disability Ministry to live in a supported home with related services right in their own community.
