Program Manager of Resident and Family Life

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a related Human Services field.

  • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, preferably in life skills (e.g., daily routines, work, and leisure time activities).

  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to be flexible on hours and residential settings to assist colleagues and those we serve.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The Program Manager of Resident and Family Life coordinates the day-to-day delivery of training and support services for residents in each SFS home. This includes the development, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of the individualized program services for each resident.

The PMRFL also develops strong and collaborative working relationships with colleagues, leadership, STARS and serves as the primary liaison to the resident’s families.

1. Resident Program Management

  • Completes, reviews, and implements all resident assessments and professional evaluations.

  • Completes resident individualized support plans, develops all training objectives and measures of success (data collection strategy).

  • Promotes community/social integration for all residents through identification of community resources.

  • Facilitate involvement of residents and their guardians in all aspects of residents’ program development.

  • Identifies and recommends on-going training needs for those staff responsible for the implementation of resident program plans; delivers approved training.

  • Part of the Weekend Supervisor rotation which consists of the Executive Director-appointed Leadership Team members.

2. Operations Collaboration

  • Provides input to the Executive Director to ensure appropriate staffing patterns are in place to support resident programs and safety.

  • Provides programming expense projections to assist the Executive Director with the development of SFS annual budget. Program Manager receives ongoing status updates on the budget.

  • As a key stakeholder, provides input into staff annual performance reviews.

  • Assist with planning and participates in all SFS special events and family meetings (e.g., Annual Family Picnic).

3. Communication Duties

  • Consistently communicates with Life Skill Coaches (DSPs), Partner Program Supervisor, Weekend Supervisor and Community Builders, volunteers, resident families regarding activities related to residential life.

  • Reviews the logs of activities that occur in the homes and takes action to resolve any issues.

  • Communicates with the Executive Director regarding activities in the home.

  • Consistently communicate and perform service coordination with each residents’ outside program/agency liaison.

4. Organizational Duties

  • Assists with planning of and participates in all staff meetings.

  • Since SFS is a religious 501(c)(3) organization, all employees must agree to the Statement of Faith and Standards of Christian Life as outlined in the SFS Employee Handbook.

  • All employees are subject to an annual motor vehicle check, and a background check every three years.

  • Must possess a valid drivers’ license and be an approved SFS driver in accordance with SFS Transportation policy.

Move & Groove Instructor Group Exercise Instructor

About This Job:

STARS Family Services is seeking a dynamic and energetic exercise instructor to join our team and lead engaging Move & Groove sessions. If you have a background in fitness instruction, excellent communication skills, and a desire to make a positive impact on people's lives, no matter what fitness level, we want to hear from you!  

The Move & Groove Instructor (MGI) is a part-time position (5 to 15 hours) at SFS that is responsible for helping individuals develop a healthier lifestyle by guiding them through physical activities during their group sessions. The MGI is responsible for creating a safe and effective workout plan, teaching STARS (Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities), how to perform exercises safely, and educating STARS on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle through both diet and exercise.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The MGI successfully help STARS improve their quality of life through physical activity. Some of the duties and responsibilities include:

  • Creating an exercise plan that is optimal for the STARS specific needs

  • Coaching STARS on how to exercise safely and effectively

  • Providing STARS with a general understanding of healthy eating and lifestyle habits

  • Keeping records to track STARS’ progress- Recording information about lesson plans and the progress of STARS

  • Making sure that STARS know what clothing they should wear and what equipment they should bring

  • Supervising STARS as they train to ensure they are maximizing their workout

  • Organizing events and activities centered around fitness

  • Keeping the area where they teach neat, clean, and organized 

Skills and Qualifications:

In addition to helping to increase personal fitness, the Move & Groove Instructor should have the skills needed to work closely with STARS seeking to improve their lifestyle. Some prerequisite skills and qualifications include:

  • Self-motivation skills

  • A true love of fitness and health

  • A supportive and nurturing character

  • Proven experience leading group fitness classes in a variety of formats.

  • Strong knowledge of exercise and proper exercise techniques.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to different fitness levels and modify exercises as needed.

  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to delivering exceptional fitness experiences.

  • Passion for health, fitness, and helping others achieve their wellness goals.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma; at least one or more years of experience leading other individuals in group exercise/fitness programs.

  • Must have one or more years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and cognitive disabilities.

Direct Support Professional — Life Skills Coach

About STARS Family Services:

Since we began in 2008 as a non-profit organization, STARS Family Services has provided community-based residential support and related services for adults with developmental disabilities in Wheaton, IL. We focus on helping people in all areas of life skills such as cooking, house chores, grocery shopping, interpersonal relationships, personal responsibilities, and self-care. Residents continue to live in their familiar community, close to their family, friends, and church. All residents are involved in the STARS Disability Ministry of College Church. We strive to create a positive homelike atmosphere in each of our homes.

Current Opportunities:

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Trains, supervises, and annually evaluates residents in life skills that would enhance the resident's independence, including cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, interpersonal relationships, personal responsibilities, personal care, and work/leisure activities.

  • Demonstrates accurate, consistent use of all safety protocols. Completes infection control/safety tasks as assigned.

  • Recommends changes in programs or facilities that will enhance the safety, well-being, and support of the residents.

  • Maintains a log of hours and activities that occur in the home during scheduled hours.

  • Communicates with SFS Leadership (Executive Director, Program Manager of Resident and Family Life) and Community Builder regarding activities in the home.

  • Role may require assisting residents if they have a physical disability. Some light lifting of less than 25 pounds may be required; moving equipment/ supplies (e.g. vacuum cleaner, lifting bags).

  • Participates in all training sessions provided by SFS. Demonstrates proficiency and incorporates tasks/protocols into daily workflow.

  • Transport residents as requested.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED. - Prefer some experience working with people with developmental disabilities.

Direct Support Professional — Partner Program Job Coach

Trains and supervises the STARS (individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities) in performing tasks at the resale shop. This position is perfect for retirees or college students looking for additional income.

About STARS Family Services:

We are a Christian non-profit organization in Wheaton, Illinois. We provide residential and vocational services for adults with intellectual disabilities within a Christian environment. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about helping individuals with disabilities become all that God intends them to be.

Current Opportunities:

Monday to Friday 9:45am to 2:30pm. Substitute Pool also available as needed M-F, 9:45am to 2:30pm. Position comes with earned Paid Time Off. No other benefits available.

Reports to:

Reports to the Partner Program Supervisor

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assess abilities of each STAR and the tasks at the resale shops to successfully assign appropriate tasks to match their skillset.

  • Develops simplified task descriptions, breaking down tasks into manageable components, according to the differing abilities that STARS can understand including picture instruction sheets as needed.

  • Trains, supervises, and assists STARS in their assigned tasks and related skills, including social skills with the goal of equipping STARS with the skills required to participate in the CCIW Resale Shops.

  • Maintains a physical presence in the Resale Shops during scheduled daytime hours, whenever one or more STARS participants is present.

  • Demonstrates accurate, consistent use of all safety protocols within all duties. Completes infection control/safety tasks as assigned.

  • Ensures that STARS consistently follow infection control/safety protocols.

  • Ensures that STARS treat each other, and both paid and volunteer staff with respect; resolves conflicts that may arise during on-site hours.

  • Keep a log of hours that each STAR participates in the Resale Shop and submits them to the Partner Coach Supervisor.

  • Provides daily feedback to STARS on task performance.

  • Communicates with CCIW Resale Shop managers regarding the needs of the shops and STARS performance.

Organizational and Communication Duties:

  • Job may require assisting STARS if they have a physical disability. Some light lifting of less than 25 pounds may be required; moving of equipment like a vacuum; lifting bags of clothes and garbage; hanging and sorting clothes and retail items.

Overnight Sleep Direct Support Professional — Community Builders

 
 

About This Job:

SFS offers a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. STARS Family Services is seeking an Overnight Sleep Direct Support Professional for our homes, conveniently located near the Wheaton College campus.

The Overnight Sleep Direct Support Professional resides in the home from 8pm-7am 5 nights per week, 11pm-8am 2 nights per week, providing a positive atmosphere of safety and community. The CB provides supervision and support for on-site training programs for STARS residents in skills necessary for independent living, including daily routines, creative outlets, and use of leisure time. This position is a sleeping position where you are not required to be awake all night - you are there as a DSP presence in the home for safety and any needed support.

At present there are two homes for men and one for women. We focus on helping residents in all areas of life skills such as cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, interpersonal relationships, personal responsibilities, and self-care. Residents continue to live in their familiar community, close to their family, friends, and church. All residents are involved in the STARS Disability Ministry of College Church. We strive to create a positive homelike atmosphere in each of our homes.

Reports to:

Executive Director, collaborating with Program Manager of Resident and Family Life and Operations Manager

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintains a physical presence in the home from 8:00 pm until 7:00am daily. Actual paid work hours are 5:00am-7:00am and 8:00pm-11:00pm, except for regularly scheduled evenings and days off.

  • Ensures that residents receive proper rest by enforcing regular bedtime hours.

  • Conducts weekly meetings with the residents, covering key areas such as safety; items of concern regarding behavior; interpersonal relationships and other matters.

  • Conducts regular Bible studies with residents; provides spiritual counseling as appropriate; arbitrates in conflicts to ensure that Christian values are maintained.

  • Is aware of and executes individualized behavior plans for residents.

  • Demonstrates accurate, consistent use of all safety protocols within all duties. Completes infection control/safety tasks as assigned.

  • Ensures that residents consistently follow infection control/safety protocols.

  • Performs regular safety inspections of the home and grounds, reporting any needed repairs or other items of concern to the director.

  • Performs minor indoor and outdoor maintenance tasks as requested by the Executive Director. These could include but not be limited to shoveling snow, landscape care and changing light bulbs. These tasks would only be requested on a temporary/as needed basis.

  • Performs related work as required.

Organizational and Communication Duties:

  • Keeps a log of hours and activities that occur in the home during scheduled hours and sleep hours (hours provided for sleep and not called to duty).

  • Communicates resident activities and concerns to morning Life Skills Coach; receives communication from volunteers and staff prior to assuming duties in the evening.

  • Communicates with the Executive Director and Program Manager on a regular basis. Receives prior approval for any hours worked over 35 hours per week.

  • Participates in all training sessions provided by SFS. Demonstrates proficiency and incorporates new tasks/protocols into daily workflow.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in human services related field preferred.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be an approved SFS driver in accordance with the SFS Transportation policy.

  • Living Arrangement: Resides in the home as a licensee (not a tenant) during the employment term as the Community Builder and retains no right to occupy the residence beyond the term of employment. The license to reside in the home is revocable at will by the SFS Board of Directors.
